Dental Implants
If you are missing teeth, you know how difficult it can be for your mouth to function correctly. Everyday tasks can become challenging and painful such as speaking and chewing. Luckily Bella Vista Dental in Seguin, Texas, offers dental implants to all qualifying patients. The basic idea behind dental implants is that they function exactly the same as the root of a tooth. Just as we can replace the crown of a decayed tooth with a cap, we can replace the root with a titanium post. This post forms a secure foundation for a tooth replacement or denture. Both Dr. Lara Perry and Dr. Quintanilla are ready to assist you with dental implants in Seguin, Texas, to restore your smile. We are ready to help you regain your confidence in your smile. What is a Dental Implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth replacement. It is a prosthetic tooth that replaces missing teeth and allows your mouth and teeth to return to normal function. The process includes three different dental appliances that we will place at separate times. Each part of the dental implant is essential to creating a seamless fit in your smile. The three different appliances are the post, the abutment, and the crown. Each piece is customized to your specifications and measurements so the implant will fit perfectly. While it is a more extensive procedure, it brings permanent and beautiful results.
Dental Implant Procedure
The dental implant procedure begins with a consultation. We will go over every detail of the procedure with you during this consultation. We will make sure your teeth and jaw bone are strong enough to support the implant, and then we will go over preparation, recovery, costs, etc., with you. We will make sure that you know everything about the procedure before beginning. We will take impressions, digital X-rays, and measurements to make the implant specific to your mouth.
The implant begins with the placement of the post. The post looks like a metal screw, and we insert it into the jaw bone. The post will become the new foundation, or tooth root, for the fake tooth. Your mouth will need time to heal before we can move forward with the procedure. As your mouth’s tissue heals around the post, it will secure it in place.
The next part of the procedure is the abutment. The abutment is a small connecting piece that allows the crown to snap onto the post. Your mouth, specifically your gum line, will also need time to heal around the abutment. At a later date, you will return to our office to get your crown.
We make each crown to match your tooth anatomy. It should be identical in shape, form, and color. Once we snap the crown into place, your implant is ready to use! You may experience some sensitivity at first, but it should quickly pass and feel completely normal.
Dental implants are a surgical procedure, so please ask us about our different sedation options if you are nervous about the process. We want you to be reassured. At Bella Vista Dental, your comfort is our top priority.
